5 Simple Steps to a Cozy Holiday Home

There’s no place like home for the holidays! Since we’ll be bunking up at home this winter more than ever before, I’m planning to transform our space into an oasis of comfort. I’m thinking something along the lines of boutique spa meets cozy cabin in the woods… sounds lovely, doesn’t it?!

When I started brainstorming what “cozy” means to me, I conjured up images of soft candlelight, scents of Frasier fir and cinnamon, warm mugs full of tasty treats, snuggly blankets and pillows, and a plush bed to crawl into when the day is done. That’s just five little steps to the holiday home of my dreams!

Here I’ve rounded up my favorite homey finds to help you join me in the cozy holiday spirit:

1. Soft Candlelight

Set your heart aglow! Every evening, I love to light a few candles, switch on the Christmas tree lights, and turn off all the other lights in the house. The soft warm glow brings a feeling that all is calm… all is bright. My favorite scents are those of cinnamon, pine, and peppermint.

2. Warm Mugs

Whether it’s a cup of tea, cocoa, or some festive mulled wine, it’s hard to catch me on winter evenings without a warm mug in my hands! A toasty treat always warms me up, body and soul.

3. Snuggly Throw Blankets

I believe there’s no such thing as too many throw blankets! I like to switch them out for the seasons, especially during the holidays. Whether you prefer a chunky knit, a monogrammed fleece beauty, or a snuggly Rumpl (more on them here), a little festive touch makes all the difference.

4. Cushy Pillows

The easiest and fastest way to change the look and feel of a room is to switch out a few throw pillows. I especially love this one with a pocket for kiddos to leave their letters to Santa.

5. Plush Bedding

The bedroom is an area that often gets overlooked for holiday decorating, but little touches like a change of sheets can add a fun surprise when you pull back the covers. I always say that your room is your sanctuary… and shouldn’t your sanctuary get some attention?

I hope you found something that reminds you of the cozy feeling of holidays. I’m wishing you warmth and joy for the upcoming season.

And of course, share your thoughts, questions, and your own favorite cozy finds in the comments!

xoxo,

Cara

  1. Love these ideas! I need to get better with the plush bedding – any time I put anything cozy on the bed, my husband complains that he gets too warm. Ug!

  2. I’m a sucker for candles, pillows and throw blankets- I have so many but they really do make the space more cozy. Thanks for these suggestions!

  3. I think the only thing on this list that isn’t part of my home is the bedding, because my husband and I both get way too warm at night to sleep with anything other than light sheets! BUT I definitely agree that the more throw blankets and cushy pillows the better. I’m all for cozy everything!
